Workshop A: Authentication for Libraries
An essential part of providing e-resources to readers is mastering the issues surrounding authentication. Publishers use a variety of authentication methods which are not always compatible with the needs of libraries. For a library to operate its e-resources properly it has to match up the authentication possibilities of its own infrastructure with those of its library technology suppliers and those of the publishers. In many cases government restrictions add an additional layer of complexity to the situation. This course covers all aspects of authentication, from usernames and passwords to single-sign-on and proxies, and looks at how to combine these technologies to solve a range of common problems faced by libraries across the world. The program will include the opportunity to discuss real-life problems faced by libraries and understand how others have solved them.

Workshop B: Measurement Tools for Libraries
Libraries across the world are under increasing pressure to ensure that they get the best value for money for their electronic resources. Budgets are limited and there is such a wealth of journals, eBooks and Databases now available that it can be hard to know how to select content that both meets the needs of library users and demonstrates the best value for money.
Help is at hand with this half-day workshop which walks delegates through the major measurement tools used by librarians today to select content, make renewal and cancelation decisions and demonstrate value for money. The workshop also reviews some of the emerging measures that are becoming increasingly important.
The pros and cons and limitations of each measure are also discussed to ensure that delegates leave with an understanding of how to use each measure in context and how to select a set of measures to obtain a balanced picture of impact, importance, value and popularity of a product to help with their decision-making processes.
